Michael trained at the workshops of David Savage, one of the most
highly regarded designer-makers in Europe. These are
some of the pieces he has designed and made recently.
Cherry Table
The brief from Imelda and Enda was to make a simple cherry table to
match an existing cherry kitchen and to fit in a bright kitchen corner with
built-in benches. The table is in American cherry, with a narrower than
normal base allowing access to the side and end benches. It has dowelled breadboard ends.
Boardroom Furniture
This boardroom
table and sideboards were designed by Michael for ICON Clinical
Research and resides in their newly completed offices. The company has
earned international repute and success but wanted to reflect its Irish
origins. The design incorporates ICON’s logo, spelling the company’s
name in Ogham, an ancient Celtic alphabet. The woods used are walnut,
rosewood and birdseye maple.
Oak Table
This oak side table was
created for a private client who wanted a traditional hall table with a
lighter, more contemporary feel. The table is made from European oak
with rosewood detail, and has a single drawer from maple, walnut and
cedar of Lebanon.
Leaf Table
This small occasional table is from walnut and mirtona burr with inlaid leaf motif marquetry.
Writing Slope
The writing slope is
again a modern twist on a traditional theme. The main case is in
English walnut with rosewood panels. The writing surface is skiver, a
softer, thinner, sheep’s leather traditionally used for writing desks.
The compartments are in maple and birdseye maple.
Chair
This is a one-off chair but
could be made as part of a set. The brief was to produce a dining chair
solid enough to be used daily but comfortable and elegant. This version
is in solid walnut.
Pen Box
A simple box with sliding lid commissioned as a birthday present with the owner’s initials on the lid.
